Tips from examiers

1. Alyways maintain a positive attitude during the interview.
2. Remember it is not important “what” you say but absolutely important “how” to say!
3. Only your “fluency”, “grammar”, “vocab” and “pronunciation(not accent)” are checked by the Examiner, nothing else!
4. Make a point of “beating around the bush” when you don’t have any idea to answer certain questions!
5. In “part two” make some “keywords ” as your notes, not sentences.
6. Try to make sure that you use as much and as varied vocabulary and grammatical structures as possible.

Describe the best present/gift you have received

Who send it? What is the gift? What is it for?

·         When did you receive it?

·         Detail information about the present.

Last year, my wife celebrated my birthday at home. She bought an electronic dictionary as birthday gift. I like the electronic dictionary very much. It’s blue and quite small. It fits into my pocket. I remember at that time, my wife said to me: “she decided to immigrate to Canada with me. In future, we must study very hard. And she hoped that the electronic dictionary could help me to improve my English.”On that day, I was very happy because my wife agreed to immigrate to Canada finally. Also, with the help of the electronic dictionary, I made such rapid progress that before long I began to write articles in English.

Writing task 1 (a report)

We were given two charts. The first was showing young people having breakfast compared with those having just fruit, the second chart was describing young people doing daily exercises during the week in five countries in 2000.

There is an argument between scientists regarding wild animals. Some of them believe in saving wild animals of all kinds, others, however, are interested in saving only particular species. Discuss both views, give your own opinion and examples.

Conditional Sentences

Type 0
Describes a fact
Structure:
If + Subject + Present verb + Object, Subject + Present verb + Object.
Example:
If there is an earthquake, run out.
If you heat the Ice, It melts.

Type 1
Describes a possible happening
Structure:
If + Subject + present verb + Object, Subject + Will + Finite verb + Object.
Example:
If I study hard, I will pass the exam.
If I become president, I will help the poor.

Noun clause:

A clause which comes instead a noun.
It can be replaced with (something or somebody)

Noun and noun clause places:

1.      Subject

2.      Object of verb

3.      Object of preposition

4.      Subjective complement

Example:
Noun as subject:
John goes home.
Noun as object of verb:
I see John everyday.
Noun as object of preposition:
I speak with John everyday.

Phrase:

Clause:

ELTS Speaking Part 2: describe a conversation

Describe an interesting conversation you had with someone you didn’t know. You should say

1.      who the person was

2.      where the conversation took place

3.      what you talked about

4.      and explain why you found the conversation interesting.

·         I’m going to talk about an interesting conversation that I had a couple of weeks ago in a music shop. I was walking along one of the main shopping streets in the city centre, when a large window displaying all sorts of musical instruments caught my eye. Out of curiosity, I decided to go in and have a look around.

·         The person I ended up speaking to was a shop assistant on the second floor, in the area of the shop dedicated to acoustic guitars. I hadn’t intended to speak to anyone, but the assistant approached me in a friendly way and asked whether I had any questions.

·         I explained to the assistant that I hadn’t played the guitar for years, but that I wondered what the differences were between the various acoustic guitars on show. He talked to me about the different makes and models, whether they were factory or hand made, the woods and varnishes used, the variation in sound quality, and of course the price range.
